You don&#039;t have to be awake for the surgery.  The type of anesthetic would be decided upon by you, the anesthesiologist, and the surgeon.  

You will have some discomfort after the surgery for a few days.  Pain meds would be prescribed to you to control that pain.  

The surgery is only worth it, if you end up with a positive result that makes you feel better about yourself.  It is a personal decision with no guarantees.  Most men are pleased with the results, but it all depends on the individual.

As far a &quot;cutting you nipple open&quot;,  they don&#039;t actually do this.  They make a small incision on the edge of the areola.  This is to minimize the presence of scarring...you wouldn&#039;t see it as much on the border.  They don&#039;t cut into your actual nipple.  It is at the border of where the pigmentation changes.</description>
